About the illustrations

ILF publishes dozens of books each year, books that have been written and illustrated by adults and children living in remote Indigenous Communities. Some Communities wish to have their books commercially available; others wish to have their books for their children and Community only.

Many commercial books are bilingual, others are in a First Language, while a few are written in English with selected words in a First Language. ILF funds the publishing of books and gifts published books back to the Community for their children to read again and again. The illustrations from the Give the Gift of Reading cards are all from ILF’s Community Publishing Projects program.

Written in Walmajarri and English, the book is a delightful read for children 3+ and available for purchase here.

Illustration from Purlka ngamaji Kakaji (Big Fat Mummy Goanna)

Purlka ngamaji Kakaji is a book about a family hunting for goanna and how mummy goannas are protected because they lay eggs, ensuring many more goannas will grow and be available to hunt. Written by Fitzroy Crossing author Emma Bear, in Walmajarri and English the book shares a valuable lesson about how to sustain a food source. It is suitable for children aged 4+ and available for purchase here.
